Hallo-freaking-ween

As a kid I never went trick-or-treating. My family wouldn't allow us. We lived in a pretty bad neighborhood and had over-protective adults. We were allowed to go to our school's Halloween night festivities. My catholic school, Sts. Peter and Paul, used to be an opera house so there were lots of rooms, staircases and a cool auditorium. There were lots of places for Halloween activities. I always made my own costume. 1) We only did store-bought ones when were we little and 2) I always enjoyed putting together my own costume. (For those of you who didn't know I was a Fashion Design major in HS so I always had the fashion bug).

A few weeks ago I went with Mr. K to get a costume for little Mr. K at a local party store. The store was chaotic as all of these kids were getting their store bought super-expensive costumes. Little Mr. K wanted a costume that was sold out so we looked at other options. We wound up getting a couple of pieces there and later on Mr. K went to a dept. store and bought the rest of the costume. I thought that this was a better idea because even though we wound up spending a little more money we got some stuff that Little Mr. K can wear in the future (though at the rate that he is growing he'll grow out of it soon)! He is going to look so cute and I bet he'll be the best looking vampire in southern NJ. :)

So parents, please dont cop-out and go with the store bought costumes. Spend some time and be creative. You'll probably save some cash and have a great time with your kids.

Oh by the way, Foamy has a great rant about kids and Halloween! If you haven't heard it yet check it out!

Hey - the "rest of his costume" is his Thanksgiving and Christmas outfit. I got the big 3 end-of-year events covered in one shot.

He shoots - He scores!

We always used to make our own costumes as kids... Store-bought ones are lame...

We always had to come up with costumes that could still provide warmth in sub-freezing weather with a foot of snow on the ground. It didn't always work. Storebought plastic Storm Trooper costumes tear when worn over snowsuits. Skeletons and zombies never seem quite as frightening in fur-lined parkas.
