Wild Wild West.

I spent the past two days out in Western PA for work. I had to fly out to Pittsburgh with a coworker for an observation and to present at a user group. The town that we stayed in was a cute little town and the natural scenery was beautiful. It was nice for a couple of days but I was fiending to get back east. I am not a big fan of flying so I was stressed for a while but I am glad to be back in Jersey tonight. Hanging out with my coworker was a lot of fun. We realized that we like the same kind of music and had a talent for remembering old 80s hip hop bands. He took me to a wild Vietnamese restaurant near Little Italy for dinner. The food was great and really cheap. Tonite I rest up and enjoy my three day weekend Woo Hoo!

Water Ice or Italian Ice?

Today the building management gave out free water ice and soft pretzels. Yummy! I don't think that I will ever get used to the term water ice. A fellow co-worker informed me that inside the Philly city limit the term water ice is used and outside the city the term is italian ice. In NYC there are three varieties of ices to chose from; Italian, Coquito and Pirragua. Italian Ice is sold at pizzarias, Coquitos and Pirraquas are sold by Hispanic (and sometime Black) street vendors. Coquitos are generally coconut flavored ice but they sometimes come in other flavors. Pirraguas are cousins of snowballs (minus the marshmallow topping they use in MD). They come in lots of flavors. I guess that there are a lot of regional things that I need to get used to. One thing that I have already loved is the Philly soft pretzel. I joke with Mr. K that I chose the apartment that I will move into because of the proximity to the WaWa down the street! MMM soft pretzels!

So far so good?

Things are well on the Philly front. I am settling into my 3rd week at the new job, getting used to a new city. I have been taking walks around the office so that I can get oriented with the area. I signed my lease this weekend and move in next month. I can't wait to have my own place again, living in a hotel sucks. Well living at the extended stay hotel I am in sucks. Luckily Mr. K is a few minutes away so I hang out with him alot.

We did have a moment of drama this weekend. Mr. K's phone was momentarily disconnected and he was unreachable. I was out with Ms. CWV doing some bridal stuff with her and her mother-in -aw to be when I got a call on my cell phone that I didn't recognize. I answered it thinking it was Mr. K calling me from a different number. Turns out it was his ex looking for him. I flipped. I have told Mr. K in the past that I want to limit my contact with her. So now I am faced with the possibility of changing my phone number which would inconvenience me greatly. Its amazing how this 15 sec phone call ruined my whole day. I go out of my way to avoid her and now she has access to me. It's not Mr.K's fault that she got my number but I don't want to have to field her calls when she can't locate him. I let her go easy once the next time I am ripping her head off.

Other than that not much else going on here. I do have to travel to Western PA for a business trip. Oh Joy!

Hope everyone is doing well. Ta Ta for now.

Call me the electron nazi.

One of my pet peeves is leaving the lights on when someone is not in the room. I would rather walk into a dark room that having to turn the lights on. Seeing how Mr. K leaves every light on at his house drives me nuts. He knows this. He was the one who named me the electron nazi. I kinda like it. Sometimes I follow him around turning lights off. He is totally understanding. He thinks I am crazy and I think he is wasteful. We're a match made in heaven :)

All is well..

All is Well Written by Thena Smith

When I have an awful day

Worse than words can tell

Once I am back with you....All is well!

When friends let me down

And betray me to my back

Once I am home with you

My life is back on track.

When life hands me a lemon

And I can't make lemonade

Once I enter in our door

I'm back into the shade.

What I want to express to you

I have not the words to tell

It's just that when I see your loving face...All is well...

Ms. Smith was the wonderfully kind lady who took Mr. K and my picture in San Diego. I had to give her a shout out!

Sacred Space

I missed this week's episode of Foamy so here it is.

I like this particular one because I am a fan of sacred space. In a way this blog is my sacred space. It is a place to dwell upon my existence, contemplate my future and rant about my present situation. I haven't been able to update lately cause I have been busy adapting to my new life but don't worry I haven't forgetten by readers. :)

Anyway I am going back to bed, I'm tired. Special shoutout to Mr. and Mrs. Smith of Manchester, MD for a wonderful summer BBQ. We all had a great time!

First day on the job.

Well the first day at the new gig went off without a hitch. Had my desk all set up ( my office stuff still has not arrived but I am not going to freak about that yet). I like the people that I work with and I think that I am going to be doing some interesting stuff there. Went out to lunch with some fellow geographers and before I knew it that day was over. And the icing on the cake was that Mr. K picked me up from work and brought me flowers. :) I love you Mr. K. even though you ordered me BBQ wings instead of Buffalo.

Ha Ha!

The Problem with Popplers.

About a month ago Mr. K and I were watching a Futurama DVD. I have a new found appreciation for this show because of Mr. K. I used to watch it sporadically when it was on tv but never really got into it. The last episode we watched together was titled "The Problem with Popplers". The premise of this episode was that the Futurama crew landed on a planet that was populated with these tiny edible creatures that they named Popplers. The problem? There were the young of the Omnicrons. Furious (understandibly) they wanted retribution towards the people of Earth. I wont divulge any further I dont want to ruin it in case you want to go see it.

About a week later Mr. K and I were having dinner in Philly's Chinatown. I wrote a blog entry about our experience there. Since seeing the (what I term) "googly-eyed" shrimp in the restaurant's tank I have been unable to eat shrimp anymore. I used to love shrimp, now when I see one I recoil in terror. I don't know what my problem is. I have seen those PBS Nature specials where they show shrimp in their natural habitat. I never had a problem eating a shrimp cocktail afterwards. But the memory of those shrimp in that tank makes me ill.

I guess that makes:

For Mr. K.

My K. mentioned (in his previous comment) that he sent me what he calls "Postcards Across America". He sent me a postcard from every stop along his trip to AK. I only received a few of them (I think one got forwarded to my new address). It was a sweet and thoughful idea. THANK YOU!!!!!! I am a very lucky girl :)

One foot out the door...

Took down the last of my cubicle stuff. It's just a matter of hours before I leave! My boss brought in bagels for our last day (another coworker is leaving to pursue other activities). I was touched. I emailed Mr. K about it and this was his response....

"You know there will be a bigger celebration of your departures after
you guys are gone, don't you?"

You know he is probably right. I know of at least one individual who will be doing cartwheels upon my departure. (More on that later).

Thanks Mr. K, I love you too.

I get no respect :)

Almost Gone, But Not Quite

Tomorrow is my last day at work. I am sad to be leaving my friends but excited to start something new. Today I got the "Don't Go" from some co-workers. It was nice to hear that because it shows that I have touched some lives (hopefully for some sort of good). I still have some stuff to do before the movers show up. I transported my fish and some other things to Mr. K's. (Don't forget to feed them everyday, honey!). I am making my last phone calls to tie up loose strings. I am getting emails from my new office so I am combing through those while trying to finishing up stuff at my current job too. I still have to take my midterm tomorrow so I need to brush up on that. I will be relieved when it is all over and I am sitting in my new cube. Crap, where did that come from? I am happy to sit in a cube? Well at least I not be sharing it and I will finally mave left MD. WOO HOO!
